Thomas C. Bender Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Thomas C. Bender, 71, of Daugherty Twp., passed away Monday, June 27, 2016, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley Beaver. Born December 20, 1944, in Rochester, a son of the late Robert H. and Catherine E. Fisher Bender, he was a retired employee of the former Superior Metals in Darlington. He was Catholic by faith. A Vietnam Air Force veteran, he was a member of Unionville American Legion Post 512, where he had been a board member and historian. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion and a charter member of Cruise in the Country, Unionville. He enjoyed participating in car cruises and the annual guys' trout fishing trips. He loved celebrating the Autumn Festival at Hooks Farm and enjoyed making homemade wine, crystal radios and spending time with Debbie in Cook Forest. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, contagious laugh, hysterical stories and outrageous gag gifts. He is survived by his fiancée Deborah Teets; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carrie L. Teets, New Brighton, and Kelly D. and Jason Gallaher, Center Twp.; his feline companion, Bean; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth "Betsy" and Joseph McCusker, New York; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Bobby" A. and Sherry Bender, Brighton Twp.; two nieces, Sara Sosak, Bridgewater, and Katie McCusker, New Jersey; three nephews, Tim Bender, Brighton Twp.; Joey McCusker, New Jersey, and Robbie McCusker, North Carolina; a great nephew, Christian Wysocki; a great niece, Ava Wysocki, and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Barbara. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester, where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Father Michael Greb, O.F.M. Cap, will officiate. Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park. The family wishes memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver County Special Unit c/o American Legion Post 580, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., Monaca, PA 15061. The family wishes to give special thanks to Emerald Health Care and Bethany Hospice. The Beaver County Special Unit will provide full military honors Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
