Robert E. Kern

Robert E. "Ed" Kern, 86, of Rochester, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016, in Franciscan Manor. Born May 11, 1930, in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Raymond A. Sr. and Mildred B. McKain Kern, he was a retired employee of the former Westinghouse Corporation, Vanport. He was Protestant by faith and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran serving as an MP. Surviving are two sisters, Charlotte A. Goda, Ambridge and Mildred B. Bailey, Rochester; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James F. and Doris Kern, Daugherty Twp., and John C. and Arlene Kern, Colorado Springs, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen P. Ellis, Jean Firth, and Nancy Mahon and two brothers, Joseph J. Kern and Raymond A. Kern Jr. Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester, where a service will be held at 8:30 p.m. The Rev. James Schmitt will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
