Mary V. Gibson

March 8, 1928 - May 7, 2016

Mary V. Gibson, 88, of Rochester, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at her home. Born March 8, 1928, in Talladega, Ala., a daughter of the late Felix and Mattie Swain, she was a retired manager with Macy's Department Store at the Beaver Valley Mall. She was a lifetime member of the Wayman Chapel AME Church, New Brighton, where she served on the Steward Board. She was past president of the Beaver Valley Service Club and president of Willing Workers. She was the loving wife of James E. Gibson, to whom she was married for 60 years. She is also survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela and Randy Dickerson, and Janette L. Moody, all of Rochester; two loving grandchildren, Randi Lee Moody and Dorin Dickerson; two great-grandchildren, Lee Michael Moody and Jace Griffen Dickerson; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Theodore F. Gibson and Etherine Gibson Tipper; special friends, Janet M. Smith, Naomi Moye and Florence Cuspard, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the Wayman Chapel AME Church, New Brighton, where services will be held at 12 noon. Rev. Samuel Chambers, pastor emeritus, will officiate. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements by WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of Hartland Hospice, especially Kristina, Leslie and Jean.
