Margaret E. "Peg" Ruckert Baker, 95, formerly of the Freedom area, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, in the Franciscan Manor, Patterson Township. Born April 21, 1921, in Mars, PA, a daughter of the late Paul E. and Margaret Cress Truver, she was retired from the Seven Fields Ruby's Dry Cleaners, and had previously worked during World War II at Spang's Mill in Ambridge, making artillery shells. She also formerly worked for the Freedom Casket Company, JCPenney in Northern Lights, and had owned and operated "Sam & Peg's Tavern" on Rochester Road in Zelienople and the Red Cap Cleaners in Conway and other locations. She was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Economy Boro. A 1940 graduate of Mars High School, she crocheted and donated over 1,000 lap quilts to the Butler VA Healthcare. Peg took classes twice a week for three years through Brian Shifton's Martial Arts Academy in Seven Fields, and earned at the age of 87 her black belt in tae kwon do. She was a member of the Big Knob Grange and the New Hope Lutheran Church Lunch Bunch. Her most prized interest was raising her deer called Bubbles. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther E. Ruckert Sr., and is survived by her former second husband, Samuel S. Baker. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and William Truver. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Paulette C. and Bruce E. Wilson, Rochester; a son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Jeannie Ruckert, New Sewickley Twp.; four grandchildren, Paul Ruckert and his wife Wendy, Freedom, Jennifer Ruckert Maxwell and her husband Kyle, Fayetteville, AR, Major John D. Wilson, USAF, and his wife Cheyenne, Goodyear, AZ, and Matthew B. Wilson and his wife Alison, Sims Valley, CA; a stepsister, Mary Louise Truver Wagle of Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Economy Boro. Her pastor, Rev. Martin Galbraith, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mars Cemetery. Arrangements by WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester. The family wishes memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the New Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Second Ave., Conway, PA 15027.
