    Joyce D. "Cookie" (Knox) Gewin

    August 27, 1943 - May 26, 2019

    Joyce D. “Cookie” (Knox) Gewin, 75, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019, while surrounded by her loving family. Born August 27, 1943, in Rochester, a daughter of the late George W. and Flora Wolfram Knox, she was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rochester. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, William E. Gewin; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Christine D. Pfeifer and (Robert Arnett), Rochester; Cheryl D. and John Gropp, Rochester; and Melanie Small and Ron; two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry Gewin and Tommie, and Brian Gewin and Kristine; ten grandchildren, Danielle Schreck, Aubrey Kluskiewicz, Dylan Gropp and wife Amanda, Sidney Gropp, Zach, Emily, Jared, Harper, Hayden and Elle; seven great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Silas, Morgan, Luckey, Lux, Blake, and Michael; one sister, Sandra Knox; and dear friend who was like a daughter, Nancy Wilhelm Morgan. She was preceded in death by 16 brothers and sisters. Per her request, Joyce was cremated. Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 8, at 1 p.m. in the Rochester BPOE Lodge 283, 440 Pinney St., Rochester. Officiating will be Reverend Gregory S. Clagg of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rochester. “God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating; hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.” Arrangements by WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 349 Adams St., Rochester.
