Adele Whipple, 90, of Vanport Township passed away on May 14, 2021. She was born on November 27, 1930 in Cumberland, MD. Adele was preceded in death by her parents, John C. and Mary Adele (Foley) Brinker, her husband of 33 years, William J. Whipple, and their son, Jesse W. Whipple. Also preceding her in death were her siblings, Dr. John G. Brinker, Dr. Rita E. Brinker, Sister Patricia Ann Brinker, MHSH, Mrs. Dorothy Pacella, Dr. Raymond R. Brinker, and Dr. Eileen Brinker-Steele. Mrs. Whipple is survived by her sister, Catherine (Arthur J.) Arenholz; her children, Roy J. (Ginny) Whipple of New Sewickley Township, PA, Maribeth (Gene) Cable of Averill Park, NY, and William A. Whipple of New Sewickley Township, PA; eight grandchildren, Jason (Rachelle) Rose, Susanna (Jeremy) Smith, Patricia Cable, Elisabeth (Jeff) Memble, Lydia (Alex) Repnoy, Christopher (Christina) Cable, Emily Whipple (Nathan Malovich), and Ryan Whipple; and 7 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Piper, Jeffrey, Josie, James, Emmett, and August. As a member of St. Felix Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Valley Parish, in Freedom, PA since 1950, Mrs. Whipple served as lector, Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, Parish Council member, and choir member. Mrs. Whipple began her teaching career at St. Felix Elementary where she also served as President of the St. Felix PTA. She then taught at St. John the Baptist School in Monaca, PA, and retired from teaching from the Riverside Beaver County School District in 1993. In 1992, she took a 27-day, 13,167 mile solo drive to Alaska. After her retirement from teaching, she began a 20 plus year career as a Penn State Beaver County Master Gardener. Adele had over 5,000 hours as a volunteer where she prepared classes and programs and answered thousands of questions at fairs, garden shows and at the local Penn State Extension office. Mrs. Whipple wrote articles, created presentations, chaired the Extension Greenline until 2018, and for over 10 years was a guest speaker on a local radio station promoting the Master Gardener program. Mrs. Whipple was the first president of the Freedom Jr. Women’s Club, the first president of the Beaver County Figure Skating Club, and a member of the Van Buren Homes Board of Directors. She was an avid reader and completed countless crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Adele also enjoyed birding, golfing, sewing, and “playing in the dirt” wherever she could. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the WILLIAM MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 349 Adams Street, Rochester, PA from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Felix Roman Catholic Church, Freedom, PA on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. A Christian Wake service will be held Sunday at 3:30 PM in the Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Sewickley Township, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, 1001 W. Joppa Road, Baltimore, MD 21204-3787.
